This is a great map for this area. The topo lines are super useful when navigating through the river valleys and ridgelines. We wish all the maps were like this one. This area is great for big trees and big snowfields above the treeline. It didn’t get its name for nothing. At over half a million acres, there are no shortage of things to see here. Most of the peaks are in the 7,000 to 9,000 range with big glacial canyons between them. This truly is the transition zone between the High Sierras and the volcanic Cascades. The wilderness designation of this area is what makes it great and needs to not be ignored. Use and abuse will change its character for years to come and rob future generations of the thrill of the region. The alpine meadows are of particular fragility. Printed in 2017 in the U.S.A.
